This figure comprises a photograph illustrating the turbidity of bacterial samples. The image shows two clear plastic laboratory tubes with white screw caps. Both tubes are approximately a third full of straw coloured liquid. In the left hand tube the liquid appear cloudy or turbid due to the high density of bacterial cells. The right hand tube does not contain any bacterial cells and the liquid appears clear.
