Session 5: What role does motivation and perfectionism play?

  • A. Use of inflexible and excessively stringent performance criteria
  • B. A harsh self-critical evaluation with little scope for error
  • C. Success leads to more demanding outcomes and inevitable failure when these are not achieved
  • D. Perceived failure results in self-condemnation, generating further distress
  • E. Self-worth is tied to accomplishments
  • F. Individuals strive further to compensate and to reduce increasing personal distress and negative evaluations.
