1.4 OU Students Association
Like most universities, the OU has its own students’ union which you automatically become a member of. The Students Association provides a wide range of support as well as ways to get involved with The Open University. President of the Students Association, Cath Brown, is here to give you a small taster of what is on offer. You’ll learn more later in this session.

CATH BROWN
So the Student's Association is the OU equivalent of a student union. And we've got quite a lot of functions. We've got a community function. We have lots of meet-ups arranged. We have presence at things like residential day schools and so on. We've got a support function. So we're having a new peer support service being re-launched. We have groups like the Disabled Student's group.
We've got lots of societies that you can join- subject-specific societies- things like mountaineering. There's opéra ballet, so lots of different societies, just like any other student association. And very importantly, we do academic representation. We look out for the interests of OU students to the university. So we've got lots of students everywhere on committees who are actually putting forward the student viewpoint and looking out for your needs.
If you want to find out more about the Student's Association, first of all, you can have a look on our website, and that is oustudents.com. You'll also see links to us from student home. And hopefully, you might get involved in some of our forums. There's a link to Student Association forums on the left-hand of student home. If you go along there, you can find other students to chat to as well. You can also see us around on social media- Facebook and Twitter.
