This is a similar map to the one above, entitled ‘Updated Map of Online Communities: size on map represents volume of daily social activity (posts, chat, etc) based on data gathered over the spring and summer of 2010’. A note points out that ‘Communities rise and fall, and total membership numbers are no logner a good measure of a community’s current size and health’. The map itself is more complicated than the 2007 version, with insets for blogs and forums. Facebook has grown a huge amount, while MySpace has shrunk. YouTube is about the size that it was before, but there are several prominent new areas including Twitter, Skype and QQ.
