INSTRUCTOR:

The safety, security, and well-being of our communities in the UK isn't just a job for the police. It often takes a combination of experience, skills, and commitment from members of community groups and public service professionals as well as community police officers working together collaboratively and creatively. This free course is designed to explore exactly that kind of collaborative approach and offers techniques for creative problem-solving as well as how solutions can be implemented within a community setting. The course focuses not only on developing personal skills - such as observation, communication, developing empathy - but also on OU research-based techniques to gather and make sense of information, resolve complex problems, make decisions, and work collaboratively to make a positive impact on your community.

Each week, you'll learn about key issues and problems of safety, security, and well-being which affect communities in the UK and how you can improve your contribution to resolving them. These include supporting vulnerable people, for example, and building partnerships, which are key to delivering services in the UK today. So whether you're a community-based public service professional, a member of a community group, or a community police officer, or simply thinking about taking on one of those roles, this course is for you. We hope that you enjoy it and it makes a real practical difference to your day-to-day work in our communities, which will mean a real positive difference to the people in your community.
