Hello, my name is Esther Vera, and I'm a computer vision engineer at Noumena. What we do is analyzing images through computer vision algorithms.

I'm Jonathan Minchin, founder of Ecological Interactions, which is an applied research group working with communities in Southern Catalonia.

ESTHER VERA

Noumena is a company that is specialised in spatial analytics through computer vision, machine learning, and image processing. We try to understand how we can relate data with space. So our scope involves using our knowledge into the urban analytics, urban planning, retail, hospitality, and also precision agriculture.

Ecological Interaction, we work with traditional methods of land use and work with communities to try to build with new technologies and current methods.

ESTHER VERA

Use Case 1 is about crop monitoring. What we try to do is to understand the growth of the plant and being able to prevent the diseases over the leaves. Also, we are starting all this information with drone images so we are organising this information into a platform visualisation. So it has a user-friendly interface for the farmers to help them into the yield management.

JONATHAN MINCHIN

Use Case 1 is also about connecting with communities, particularly with farmers in the field, with the drone industry, policy-makers, and other types of operators in the rural environment.

ESTHER VERA

We have very close conversations with the local farmers. They are really helping us into this process of data collection. We are scheduling the flights depending on the period of the time, and they're also helping us to understand how the plants grow.

JONATHAN MINCHIN

It's very important for us to listen to the farmers, as well as policy-makers. The knowledge and expertise that they have can really help inform us with new technologies and deployments of new abilities.
