Structured Interviews
Employees involved in an activity are interviewed using a structured set of questions which should result in risks becoming apparent to the interviewer. This can help to avoid group think described earlier and make sure that less vocal members are able to provide an input.
Pros
- Can avoid group think or reluctance to contribute
- Greater depth and understanding of the risk can be obtained from the interviewee
- The interviewer can select individuals based on the (expected) contribution, targeting people with specific knowledge
- Particular areas of risk that are of interest to the company can be explored (rather than just those which are offered up)
Cons
- This approach can be time consuming for those co-ordinating
- More time may elapse to complete the ‘risk’ activity
- The interviewer may need more subject matter knowledge to elicit the risks from the interviewees
- Preparation is required (e.g. developing questions)
- The opportunity for group input is reduced
