This is a bar chart showing the official distribution of the UK population by net household incomes in 2021–22. The height of each bar shows the total number of individuals in the UK who live in a household that has a particular weekly income, from the lowest group (more than five hundred thousand individuals with a net household income of 0 to £10 per week) to the highest (nearly two hundred thousand individuals with a net household income of £990 to £1000 per week). The 100 bars on the chart are divided into nine alternating purple and orange groups, numbered 1 to 9 and each representing 10 per cent of the population. The caption notes that the richest 10 per cent is not included, but consists of 8.8 million UK individuals living in households with incomes of over £1000 per week. Labels on the graph note that the mean net income is £688 per week (which is just under halfway through group 7) and the median net income is £565 per week (which is nearly at the end of group 5). Between £20 and £200 a week, the number of individuals increases gradually from about 50 thousand to just over 200 thousand. From £200 a week to £500 a week, the number of individuals increases more rapidly to about 1.1 million. The number of individuals in each income band then gradually decreases to just under 200 thousand in the highest income group shown (£1000 per week).
