Name: aLgae

What first triggered your interest in environmental issues?

1994 - During a science classes, the teacher told us about a nuclear plant accident --- Chernobyl disaster (1986).

What are you working on, concerned by, or motivated by at the moment?

What do you anticipate working on, or thinking about, in relation to environmental issues over the next 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years?

Engineering related to alternative technologies, or education

How optimistic or pessimistic are you as you look at where we might be in 2020, and why?

Pessimistic. COP15 outcome was disappointing - the environment needs a leader to unite all the countries to work together to reduce emissions, but sadly, there's none now and none in the foreseeable future.

Tell your story in your own words.

I just watched Avenue Q tonight, and learnt a new word --- Schadenfreude (SHAAD-n-froi-duh). It means "Pleasure derived from others' misfortunes". It seems that schadenfreude could be rightly used to describe the current climate scenario --- whereby the developed countries did enjoy "pleasure" at the expense of the developing countries which are suffering from the adverse effects of climate change, brought about by developed countries' excessive use of fossil fuels, etc.
