Session 6: Subjects and objects
Introduction
Session 5 introduced two case endings, the nominative and the genitive. This session presents a third, the accusative case, and explains how to use nouns in the nominative and accusative case to form a complete sentence with a subject, a verb and an object:
ὁ ἵππος διώκει τὸν ἄνθρωπον
The horse chases the man.
Understanding the nominative and accusative case will enable you to read more of Alexander’s inscription from Priene. You will also examine the variety of scripts in which Greek was written before the end of the fifth century BCE.
