5 Summary of Week 1

During this week, you have become familiar with some of the key terms of digital research in the Humanities. You have learned that the Humanities have always adapted to changes in the medium of research and communication. You have understood the main reasons and methods that drive the digitisation of physical objects. You have discovered the difference between data and metadata, and how search engines work. Finally, you have reflected on how born-digital data plays a fundamental role in your everyday life and in your research.

Next week, you will learn a number of methods and approaches for doing research with digitised and born-digital documents.
