7 Summary of Session 3

In this session, you have learned about a number of stages of a SoTL inquiry: identifying stakeholders, formulating your aim and research questions, designing and evaluating the inquiry with the help of a guiding framework and conducting and writing a literature review.

Designing and conducting a SoTL inquiry is not a linear process. For example, when conducting a literature review, you may like to go back and revise the aim or the research questions. The revision of the questions may necessitate revisiting the list of stakeholders to check that it corresponds to the revised inquiry.

In the next session, you will learn about how students can be partners in a SoTL inquiry and the ethical considerations of conducting a SoTL inquiry, including the ethical aspects related to having students as partners.

You are now halfway through the course. The Open University would really appreciate your feedback and suggestions for future improvement in our optional end-of-course survey [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab.
