Figure 27 comprises four photographs labelled (a), (b), (c) and (d) of workers in the Brompton factory. Worker (a) is using a pillar drill. This machine is an electric drill supported on a pillar and is about the size of the worker. The worker is using the drill to create holes in an item, drilling one hole at a time. Worker (b) is welding part of the frame that is held in a jig. Worker (c) appears to be assembling the front wheel into the front forks of a bicycle that must be supported in some sort of assembly jig. The hinge in the beam is clearly visible and is a lot smaller and unobtrusive than the one used in the prototype in Figure 27. In picture (d) somebody is working on a single item held in a jig on some sort of testing machine.
