3 Charts and graphs as visual representations of data

In Section 1, you looked at how data can be collected and recorded in tables. Visual representations of data, namely graphs and charts, can provide insights which are not easily observed from the data alone.

In this section you will look at how data can be represented visually using several different charts and graphs, including:

  • pictograms
  • bar charts
  • line graphs
  • pie charts
  • scatter graphs.

We will also discuss when it might be appropriate to use each of these graphs and charts.
