4.5 Building misconceptions into your teaching

You have considered some of the common misconceptions that arise when teaching probability in the middle years. As you teach this topic you are likely to find others.

In Week 3, where you looked at common misconceptions with proportional reasoning, we discussed the importance of tackling misconceptions directly. Due to the abstract and sometimes counter-intuitive nature of probability, it will be is important to ensure that your learners have a clear understanding of the rules and logic involved.

Using quotes like those in Activity 16 as starter activities to stimulate discussion is a good way to address misconceptions with your class.
