Transition Town Totnes is "a dynamic, community-led and run charity that exists to strengthen the local economy, reduce the cost of living and build our resilience for a future with less cheap energy and a changing climate".

It was initiated by a non-governmental organisation/charity and encourages people to participate through organising & campaigning. Transition Town Totnes is local in orientation and concerned with economy, environment & sustainability, and neighbourhood & community

It was launched in September 2006 and is ongoing.
