The surprise victory of such an unconventional candidate has left commentators scrambling to make sense of his victory and try to assess some of the likely consequences in domestic politics in the US. Questions also arise as to whether his success, and the success of other populist movements in Europe, mark a significant shift in the political climate away from existing debates about left and right. In this audio Tendayi Bloom asks Geoff Andrews and Richard Heffernan about the ‘populist’ politics of Donald Trump, how that form of politics might unfold within the constraints of the US politics system and about the rise of populism more widely.

We have suffered years in Britain and America from men in posh suits and perfect hair who have known exactly where THEY, not WE are going. I call them Joy Riders and very time they go they leave our Countries worse off.
Mrs Thatcher wasn't a Bloke, (I think) but when her Government released restrictions on Personal Borrowing, they opened the door for debt and imported goods. Because the Banks would prefer to get their high return on Credit cards, with the added bonus of being able to repossess the goods, they stopped lending to Industry. Research and development all but stopped. Massive apprentice schemes like those of Rover folded. When Rover was regarded as a lame duck and the properties were asset stripped, Rover had in its posession a revolutionary and viable 16 valve Cylinder Head. THe banch mark for most of the cylinder heads today! Industry carried on folding snd the high Tech machined which had been developed over years in Britian went to China and India at scrap value. THatche, Major, Blair and Brown joyrode and surfed on a wave of Debt. WE are debt junkies, but unlike the Junkies, we never feel the needle going in bu we feel a ***** when it comes out.
Mr. Trump. You need and old **** like be to tell you where the pitfalls might be following any action.I'm horribly cheap, I don't wear suits (so you can trust me). I want you not to be pushed into actions which the pushers have not thought out.
I also beg you to beware of people who know what they are doing. They speak like the young Lothario who tells the girl 'Don't worry, I can do it without making you pregnant'!
And if you see Tony Blair, RUN!
