Professional biography
Hilde is a Research Associate focusing on participatory public engagement, communication and knowledge production. Hilde Stephansen joined The Open University in February 2013 and her role is linked to two research projects: Catalyst, which aims to research and embed practices of public engagement with research across The Open University and Creating Publics, which seeks to innovate new ways of conceptualising and enacting public engagement with social science research. Prior to joining The Open University, Hilde taught in the Department of Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she also completed her PhD in January 2012. Her thesis Making Global Publics? explored the character and significance of media and communication in the World Social Forum, focusing on their relationship to processes of knowledge production and to the politics of place and scale in transnational social movement networks. From July 2012 to June 2013, Hilde also worked for the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths on Storycircle, an action research project that explored the social and digital conditions for narrative exchange and knowledge production.
