Professional biography
Dr Janet Sumner is a qualified geologist and vulcanologist, and was one of the pioneering media fellows at The Open University.
Dr Janet Sumner is a qualified geologist and vulcanologist. She has also presented a number of BBC programmes, including The Cosmos: A Beginner's Guide and British Isles: A Natural History.
Janet was previously a research fellow at The Open University, researching the active volcanoes Stromboli and Etna in Italy. She studied basaltic fire-fountains, their deposits and the hazards they represent. She was also involved in computational fluid dynamic modelling and laboratory modelling of fire-fountains (using golden syrup).
