What is a super blue blood moon?

Three moon-related oddities come together for one night only (at least, one night since 1866 anyway). A quick video can explain it all...

On Wednesday 31st, a supermoon, a blue moon and a blood moon all coincide. You'll be aware, of course, that this a ghastly portent of terrible times as surely as a cat giving birth to a litter of snakesan interesting coincidence for astronomers. And a while back the OU's Dave Rotherey pointed out that a supermoon isn't all that super anyway. Still, something that hasn't happened since the year Beatrix Potter and HG Wells were born is worth getting to grips with. Our friends at the BBC have made this short video to explain the three phemomenon that are coming together:
