Introducing computing and IT

5.6 Summary of Section 5

In this section you followed Gloria, a digital forensics expert, who has teamed up with Rupert, a private investigator. You learned about the structure of hard disk drives and how files are stored and retrieved from HDDs. You also learned that deleting data from an HDD can be undone. But then you were also introduced to various ways to permanently delete data from an HDD. The section ended with an explanation of HDD fragmentation.

In the next section, you will be introduced to solid-state drives, that is SSDs.
