An OpenSTEM laboratory school providing you with 24 hours of ‘hands on’ experience with several widely used techniques in chemistry. Techniques include making up standard solutions and serial dilutions, use of automatic pipettes, solvent extraction, use of rotary evaporator, column chromatography, recrystallisation, handling air sensitive reagents and heating under reflux under a nitrogen atmosphere, TLC, and characterisation using IR and NMR spectroscopy. The laboratory protocols are designed to develop good laboratory practice (GLP).

To gain this badge, you must have successfully participated in all aspects of practical training/techniques at the OpenSTEM ‘Further laboratory skills for chemistry’ Laboratory School (SS031), and demonstrated awareness of and working to relevant health and safety guidance.
