Long description
Here the interchangeable parts of the rifle can be seen where the assembled mechanism allows a spark from the ‘flint’ to ignite a charge of black powder in the ‘pan’. The ‘pan’ in turn ignites the main charge in the barrel to fire the projectile. The figure shows other parts of the rifle including the ‘hammer’, the ‘jaw screw’, ‘jaws’, ‘frizzen’ and ‘frizzen spring’. The rifle is shown to be constructed from metal and wood materials.
