SUE BLACK

Hello again. Last week you looked at what was going on in the STEM sector, what trends and new growth areas are likely to be emerging, and who is likely to be hiring people for what kinds of jobs over the next few years. This week, you’ll be looking at the range of working patterns that you might want to consider when you go back to work.

The old patterns of 9 to 5 working are being replaced in many workplaces with more flexible work options that can fit around other commitments. I'm a mum of four. I don't do anything by halves. If like me, you have kids of school age, you'll know how important it is to be able to work flexibly. It just makes life so much easier.

Recent legislation means that employers have to listen to requests and make adjustments where they can. You'll be hearing about job shares, part-time and term-time working and so on. And also considering the pros and cons of working from home and of starting up your own business, giving you the ultimate control over your working hours. At the end of this week, you'll complete the first of your longer quizzes, which will count towards your badge.
