RACHEL
I've got very good friendships with people I was in the army with and even people from university days. And it was their encouragement, really, telling me that I really should be going back to something professional within project management. And that was something I was perfectly capable with despite the career break. So I had great encouragement.
I organised a two-week work experience, if you like, with a friend's company, an oil and gas engineering company. Had the oil and gas industry not been in the state it is at the moment with the oil prices, I was offered a role there to come back when things reversed. So I realised that once I had my foot in the door, I would be able to prove myself.
