The Student as Partners in Educational Research is an
ongoing initiative sponsored by eSTEeM: The Centre for
Scholarship and Innovation based in the Faculty of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics, whereby OU undergraduate or postgraduate
students are supported to participate as partners in STEM educational research with OU staff, alongside their
studies. eSTEeM manages a range of educational research projects with the aim of improving the
student experience. Projects involves research connected to assessment,
accessibility, educational innovations, tutorial support and many other areas
of STEM pedagogy. Most of our projects benefit significantly from very close
involvement with our own students and eSTEeM
actively encourages students to participate as members of project teams
Students who actively participate in this initiative via a recognised eSTEeM project are entitled to be awarded this microbadge.
To enrol on this item, and gain the microbadge, you must have participated in a recognised research project and passed the associated iCMA.

Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
Develop understanding of how educational research projects are undertaken in a STEM Higher Education context.
Develop a range of appropriate educational research skills which may include conducting surveys, interviews, running focus groups, data handling and report writing.
Increase experience in working as part of a team with Open University staff and other students
