4.3 Modified gravity

A third alternative explanation for the acceleration of the Universe is modifications to the theory of gravity on the largest scales. As discussed previously, this remains in some ways an attractive possibility, but does not currently provide a single consistent explanation for all of the phenomena attributed to dark matter and dark energy.
