Long description
The line graph shows increasing levels of economic inequality in the US and Britain as a consequence of the significant increase in income of the top one per cent. The y axis shows the percentage share of income from 0 to 25 in five percent increments. The x axis shows years from 1900 to 2010 in five year increments. Totals for the US are represented by a blue line, which shows a significant fall in income of the top one per cent during the 1960s and 1970s and a steep rise and increase from 1980 onwards. Totals for Britain are represented by an orange line, which shows a steady decline in income of the top one per cent from 1900 to 1980 and a sharp increase since 1980.
