Its host, Aamir Khan, described Satyamev Jayate as a show that "is about meeting the common man of India, connecting with India and its people". The shows website invites people to share their "views, opinions and suggestions on [each] episode, and the issue it tackles" through comments, videos and voice messages.

It was initiated by a media organisation and encourages people to participate through an online platform and a tv programme. Satyamev Jayate is national in orientation and concerned with anti-discrimination, equality & social justice, democracy, politics & representation, environment & sustainability, and health.

It was launched in May 2012 and is ongoing. Millions of people are involved.
