Talkaoke describes itself as "a spontaneous, pop-up talk-show" which “consists of an illuminated round table with a host sitting in the middle on a swivel chair. Participants sit around the outside and are passed the microphone whenever they want to talk, coming and going as they please. The conversation is a journey from one unexpected subject to another".

It was initiated by artists & cultural organisations and encourages people to participate through a special event. Talkaoke is local in orientation and concerned with participation.

It was launched in November 1997 and is ongoing.

This page is part of Participation Now, a project that brings together a diverse collection of participatory public engagement initiatives with the aim of supporting exploration, learning and engagement. Explore the collection of initiatives or read more about the project.
