Taking a critical theory approach, this module scrutinises education policy and practice, at both national and institutional levels, with regard to the way in which they inhibit or facilitate equality in society and the community. You will be introduced to core concepts pertaining to equality and social justice within the area of 'education', before focusing on the key elements of a critical theory approach to investigating issues of equality, and the research tools you can employ. To study this module, you will need to have some experience of engaging with or working with learners. However, this can be with any age level and within any formal or informal educational setting. You will be required to challenge your own and others' experiences and assumptions related to pedagogy and learning, with a view to engaging in the process of transforming education policy and practice to effect greater equality and/or social justice. You will also be encouraged, but not required, to share your ideas and experiences with other students studying this module to broaden your understanding of social justice and equity issues across different educational contexts.

Whether you're involved in care work (paid or unpaid), use services yourself, or simply have a general interest, this module will build knowledge and understanding, develop skills, and prepare you for further study.
What causes mental distress and what can be done about it? How is health and social care support, which is increasingly delivered at local level, affected by lay and professional perceptions of mental health and illness? This module examines how aspects of the external environment ? in particular social, environmental, economic and political factors ? shape and constrain our understandings and experiences of mental health and distress. It explores the theories and concepts that underpin and challenge mental health practice and service provision and looks at the impact of the frequently competing perspectives that characterise the world of mental health.
This online module focuses on innovations in and the facilitation of environmental management concepts and practice. You will examine systems theories in detail and have the opportunity to investigate complex situations at domestic, organisational and community levels. Using London Heathrow Airport as a case study, you will gain different perspectives of environmental management situations, the views of stakeholders, how these are represented and the impact of these views for further action and innovation. This module is designed to follow and build on the ideas, tools and their uses introduced in (T219) and, like T219, includes some group work.

This online module explores the answers to questions like these by introducing ideas, approaches and techniques for environmental management at individual, organisational and community levels. Recognising that our understanding of human-environment relations is changing, this module combines conventional with innovative systems approaches to environmental management, including an approach to community participation which is taught through a series of group activities.
