As almost all aspects of life and work now have a digital element, the number of ways attackers can enter a network or system has grown exponentially. Did you hear how hackers targeted Paris Hilton, Sony and other high profile TikTok users in June 2024?
Examples of data breaches, identity theft or service disruption are increasingly commonplace, so our awareness and learning in this area more important than ever.
The Cyber security pathway offers you two routes to help build your cyber security awareness and skills. You can start with:
Cyber Foundations
24 hours (8 x 3-hour 'Weeks')
Did you know that phishing, which relies on fraudulent human behaviour, causes more than 80% of cyber security breaches?
Cyber Foundations consists of eight games and personalises your learning experience as you progress. Earn badges as you go, and collect your course completion certificate and badge to showcase your achievements.
Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) – Cyber Security
120 hours (6 x courses)
Already know the basics, or have completed Cyber Foundations and want to develop some technical skills? Enrol on the second course in our pathway – CCST Cyber Security.
Work through high-quality, engaging learning from Cisco – a leading provider of software, network and cyber security solutions. You’ll benefit from a range of hands-on practical cyber security and network engineering skills using the Cisco Packet Tracer Network Simulator, with support on hand from our team of educators in the forums.
These courses on Cisco's Networking Academy platform will develop your network, security, automation and programmability skills, and the confidence you’ll need to apply for an entry-level role in a related field.
Technical requirements
- Internet – You’ll need a reliable Internet connection.
- Devices – The Cyber Foundations, Getting started with generative artificial intelligence (AI) and professional skills courses are optimised for mobile viewing.
- Access to a desktop or laptop computer – For the labs and the CCST and PCEP courses, you’ll need regular access to a desktop or laptop computer to engage with the activities. Any supported Windows or Mac device will work. If using Linux, Ubuntu is recommended. Note that some simulations and labs won’t function on Chromebooks.
