    • Introduction

Perth and Kinross, Scotland is home to hundreds of beautiful, friendly birds — many we can find in our gardens, towns, villages, schools, and playgrounds.

Who is this activity course for?

This activity course is written for primary school children working at Curriculum for Excellence level 'First' and 'Second' and their teachers in Perth and Kinross primary schools. It is designed to be used in classrooms by teachers with a smartboard or projector with activities completed collectively by pupils as a whole class, small working groups, and individually.

The course references print-out activities and games for pupils to do during sections of the activity course. These are found in the downloads section below and should be prepared beforehand.

This activity course has been created to pair with the bird boxes given to your primary school by GreenTweed Eco.

What is included in this activity course?

This activity course includes interactive games, print-out activity sheets, arts and crafts, notes, session plans and teaching materials. There is a quick start guide below to help teachers get started.

      How do I use it?

This activity course/pack is designed to be used over multiple lessons, typically between 1 to 2 hours per lesson. The activity course has a tracking completion feature to make monitoring the class's progress easier. An OpenLearn Create account is required for this feature, however (the course with no tracking can still be accessed without an account!).

This pack is designed to have the activity course displayed on a projector or smartboard for pupils to view whilst a teacher refers to the session plans and teaching notes whilst teaching. If a projector or smartboard is not available in your classroom, below are included photocopy-friendly notes and infographics for pupils to follow instead of on-screen visuals. For the most effective teaching, both on-screen visuals and the paper follow-along notes and infographics can be used!
