Module 1: Introduction To Rights-Based Child Health

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the concepts and history of a rights-based approach to child health and well-being.
  2. Compare and contrast a rights-based approach with other frameworks and concepts for advancing child health and well-being.
  3. Discuss the implications of a rights-based approach to child health.


This module will introduce the underlying concepts and principles of a human rights-based approach to children’s health and well-being as it applies to the field of children’s rights generally, and to Community Pediatrics specifically. In subsequent modules we will describe rights-based tools and explore strategies that can be used in clinical practice, development of health systems and the generation of public and private sector health policy.
