Very New to OER

I am looking forward to this opportunity to 'dip my toes' into OER, community of practice and to be honest communicating via discussion forum. As a college Pre-Health Human Biology and Mathematics instructor I hope to learn how to efficiently identify (and maybe even share?) OER applicable to my courses and assist with student engagement.

Reading the resources provided in this course so far reminds of a time early in my teaching career when I had the opportunity to work with an organization (KEY Foundation - Knowledge of Education for Youth Foundation).  The mandate of KEY was to create an open access 'tool kit' of teaching and learning resources to secondary school teachers across Canada with the introduction of biotechnology and sustainability topics in the classroom.  Some excellent collaboration occurred, but with the limits of technology at the time sharing and collating the resources proved to be very challenging.

I also have a keen interest in engaging reflective learners in the classroom.  The book Quiet by Susan Cain has had a significant impact upon my pedagogical decisions.   Some may find this webinar interesting: https://tophat.com/webinars/susan-cain/

Thank you all for your patience with a 'newbie'.

Welcome Susan, great to have you on board. I'm an introvert and a huge fan of "Quiet."  There's a lot of information, even in this introductory, informal learning, so no need to take it all in at once. You can save all the modules and return to them over time. Starting small with course resources is also a good practice. No need to completely change everything, test some things out, reflect!
