Activity 2.5 TESSA Key Resources

Use this thread to tell us how you plan to use the TESSA Key Resources in your own teaching

First ,

You will agree with me that the TESSA resources are many , are ways on which teaching can be modeled.

In planning to use the TESSA resources will depend on the Subject  to be taught . in this case for primary and secondary schools normally they are steams , they are subjects under social studies stream, science stream and language stream. As for there are differences in teaching regarding the streams particularly on pedagogical issue  that is pedagogical resources. The  planning on the use of TESSA resources has to consider the topic to be taught as well as the specific objective to be achieved in relation to the learning outcomes.

However, they are key resources which cut across  include; planning and preparing a lesson plan, use of technology , assessing learning to mention few.

Totally, Martha! The key resources are what our French speaking colleagues would call transversal resources.

I always think of that the Key resources are the warp in the TESSA materials and the subject resources are the weft.

I will use TESSA Key Resources  to do the following

Assessment:  I will TESSA key resources  to plan my assessment formative and summative assessments.   I will use forums, quizzes to identify if learners have acquired what they are meant to learn. If not  I will follow  them up to close the gaps.

Participatory Methodologies: I will use TESSA resources  to creatively  design and  enrich my lesson to make it engaging for the students. I will use brainstorming, role plays, case study, group work etc.

Managing large classes:I will apply knowledge gained from TESSA resources to manage class classes by putting them in groups and local communities.

Questioning Techniques: With TESSA resources I will now ask the students questions that will stimulate creativity and problem solving skills.

Using Technology: I will adapt TESSA OER to enrich my teaching and learning experiences.

I was interested in the TESSA resources for working with large classes so as as to ensure all learners are included, involved and participate in the lesson.

Another resource that was of interest was the teacher in challenging circumstances and how to use locally available resources, as well as exchange ideas in rural versus urban areas.

TESSA key resources are quite many.In using the resources, I will like to use the following resources to plan my teaching;

Planning and preparing your lesson:I will use this resource to plan and prepare my lesson, putting the interest of the students at heart, understanding the subject matter.

Assessing learning :as a teacher ,I will use this resources to assess my lesson, using formative and summative assessment, with discussion and quizzes and follow up on their learning.

Questioning: I will also use questioning resources to promote learning in the classroom by using questioning to find out what the learners already knew about the subject matter.

For me I will mostly use, Group work as a key resource, since our students may be able to meet and share ideas and knowledge and participate in group activities which will broaden their skills and instill confidence in partaking their duties.

Working in group will be appropriate since our students may be able to meet and share ideas and knowledge and participate in group activities which will broaden their skills and instill confidence in partaking their duties.

The TESSA Resources are enermous, a lot can be drawn from them in relation to what one wants to teach, to whom and at what time. For me I feel like I have discovered a gold mine.
I will use the resources in planning, handling a large class and modifying some of the methods to suit my situation.

Hi Dauda

I am pleased you see the resources as a "gold mine" !  They have been developed in consultation with many teacher educators in many countries,

For once this gold is free and made for sharing and adapting.

We really love to hear how you are using them in your context.

I see summative and formative assessment so interesting  the way TESSA key resources make use of it in teaching and learning process, not only as a form of evaluation but as a tool to promote teacher understanding of the learners.

i will be using the assessment method at every beginning  of a new topic and the conclusion of the topic.that will give me a better understanding of learners entering knowledge and how their knowledge will be guided.

I intend to be using case study for students to reflect on before an upcoming lesson.

Also give them brainstorming questions....before the lesson...as lesson progresses, frequent questioning keeps the facilitator an idea if the subtopic covered is understood.

Thanks for this Gladys. I do agree that using questions in lots of different ways for formative assessment and to promote learner engagement is such a useful strategy.

The use of the TESSA Key Resources depends largely on so many factors ,it's the combination of these factors that will determine which resources I will use:: Age,Class size, subject, topic, duration, class level and environment

The TESSA Key Resources are really destined to teachers and student-teachers, providing guidance on key strategies for active learning and teaching. Some would call them the TESSA pedagogical guide.

The resource that would help me most is that which will help me work with large classes. The skill will help me plan and prepare lessons adequately and hence moving from here won't be a problem, including working with groups and assessing them.

To teach narrative or listening skills, I will like to draw on on the following TESSA Key resources: Demonstration via group drama, as a resourceful teacher, I will tell stories, learners could also be encouraged to demonstrate a communicative event

Helen Hendry Post 24 in reply to 23

I love this idea Felicia. Even if you have a very large class they could work on some drama activities in groups and then perhaps share them to a paired group- so you don't all have to watch every one.

I plan to use these resources to train teachers on how to prepare lesson plans and how to structure content.

The reources could be used as a template to enable student teachers learn and also assist them during the teaching practice

How I plan to use the TESSA Key Resources in my own teaching

(A). I will use the TESSA resources to plan and verify my lesson sequence.

(B) I will also use it for open and closed questioning, expanding responses, and encouraging student questioning during my teaching.

(C) I will encourage my students, to make use of TESSA resources. And this can be achieved by giving them assignment, and referring them to the website, where they will get TESSA materials.

All the teaching approaches are very good and encourage active learning. The fact that students have the resources on the phone will serve as a guideline to them.

I would like to use explanation in a better way in my classroom following the approach that was given.
