This is a picture of four triangles whose sides are all the same length. The first triangle is coloured blue. The midpoints of the second triangle have been joined together to form four smaller identical triangles and the middle triangle has been removed. In the third triangle, this process has also been applied to the three small blue triangles, giving nine even smaller blue triangles. In the fourth triangle, this process has been applied again, leaving 27 small blue triangles.
