Shrimp and fish harvesting involving the use of ice The video opens with staff of a shrimp farm preparing to harvest a pond. Large blue tanks can be seen which are filled with a water and ice slurry. Staff are seen cutting large blocks of ice and passing them through a machine to produce crushed ice. The focus then moves to the side of a lined pond which has large aeration paddle wheels. Harvesting nets and baskets are being prepared here. In the next segment, the shrimp are shown captured in the net and being transferred to plastic baskets through which water can easily pass, but not the shrimp. Each basket of harvested shrimp is weighted and then transferred to the ice slurry tank for a short period until the shrimp have died. They are then transferred to a van for transport to primary processing. This segment also includes some further video of ice preparation. The next segment shows the shrimp being sorted prior to further processing. There are multiple tables with staff on both sides with aprons and gloves, sorting shrimp into baskets. The video then shows tilapia being harvested from a cage in Africa using a brailer net lifted by crane and released into a large plastic bin with lid on the workboat. Staff then add some crushed ice to the bin before closing the lid. The final segment shows a similar bin and icing procedure for harvested pompano.
