Figure 48 is a side view photograph of a person wearing a pair of protective goggles. The left hand side of her face can be seen. A metal nail, approximately 60mm long, has struck the goggles and remains embedded in the lens. The pointed end of the nail has penetrated the lens and is very close to the wearer's eye. The nail must have been propelled towards the wearer at high speed and the lens has stopped it damaging the eye of the wearer.
