Welcome to Safeguarding Essentials
This course is for Global Football Community Learners and Open Learners, and is part of the FIFA Guardians™ Safeguarding in Sport Award.
This course is an introduction to essential safeguarding knowledge for football and other sports; the course explains what safeguarding is, why it is important, how you can help reduce safeguarding risks and respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns.
It is divided into three 30-minute sessions for you to complete at your own pace. The course explains how safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. It’s up to us!
This course is free and open to all, you are welcome to study it without enrolling. If you want to earn a FIFA/OU digital badge for your learning, you’ll need to enrol. Once you have done so, you’ll be returned to this screen where you can complete the statements and the survey. FIFA-approved learners need to enrol on the FIFA Learner pathway.
To receive your end-of-course certificate you must do both of the following:
- Complete the course content to the end. Ensure that every section has been completed and has an blue tick next to it. In the final section, click on the EXIT COURSE button to go to the end-of-course quiz page.
- Score 70% or higher in the end-of-course quiz. If you don’t pass it first time, you can retake the whole quiz again as many times as you need until you do pass.
Before you start the course there are two statements you must click on and respond to plus a very short survey (see the Confirmation of age eligibility to study the course, Declaration about the eligibility to work with children and the Pre-course survey items below).
It is important to know that completing this education programme will not guarantee sporting environments and activities to be 100% safe for children and young people. Inappropriately designed programmes and poor operational management can put children and youth at risk of harm. We hope that by taking this course, risk of harm can be identified and reduced and that everyone can participate in sport in a safe and supportive environment, free from all forms of harassment and abuse.
