A

antibody

A large, Y-shaped protein that is part of the adaptive immune system in vertebrates. Regions on the tips of the Y bind specifically to ‘non-self’ antigens, including those from pathogens, and either neutralise them directly or tag them for neutralisation by other parts of the immune system.
