quality assurance (QA)

A set of activities to monitor the overall testing process. It includes the handling, processing and analysis of samples.


quality controls (QCs)

The monitoring of an individual test or process to ensure that quality requirements are being met.


quality indicators (QIs)

Observations such as statistics or data used to determine the performance of a process.


quality management system (QMS)

A set of activities to develop, document and implement continual improvement of the overall process through regular management reviews, as well as corrective and preventive action.


quality systems essentials (QSEs)

Twelve topics essential for quality management of public health and clinical laboratories, as defined by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).
