GenAI tools are developing rapidly – since the public release of ChatGPT in November 2022, a huge range of different tools and services have been developed.

With these rapid changes, it is important to keep yourself informed, and to understand how technological changes are likely to impact on law and the legal profession.

Welcome to course 8: horizon scanning and AI literacy. This is the final course in this suite of courses.
Horizon scanning is a common phrase used in many industries and scientific endeavours. It refers to the process of identifying emerging trends, opportunities, and risks that are not yet fully visible but are approaching on the horizon.
In the context of AI, this is particularly relevant. In late 2022, Generative AI appeared on the horizon for many different groups of people and companies. Before then, it had been over the horizon and people had not given it much, if any, thought. Since then, GenAI has become mainstream and yet more advanced AI technologies are appearing on the horizon. 
This course highlights different sources of information for keeping up to date with GenAI developments, and their strengths and weaknesses. It also considers the impact on human intelligence by artificial intelligence and the importance of AI literacy. Welcome to course 8.

Horizon scanning is a common phrase used in many industries and scientific endeavours. It refers to the process of identifying emerging trends, opportunities, and risks that are not yet fully visible but are approaching on the horizon.

This is a self-paced course of around 120-150 minutes including a short quiz.

A digital badge and a course certificate are awarded upon completion. To receive these, you must complete all sections of the course and pass the course quiz.
