5.2 One Health
In AMR surveillance and you you were introduced to the concept of One Health and why addressing the issue of AMR requires a One Health approach. One Health is defined as ‘the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines – working locally, nationally, and globally – to attain optimal health for people, animals and our environment’ (One Health Initiative Task Force, 2008).
In this module you have learned that antimicrobial-resistant bacteria can be found in humans, animals and the environment. It makes sense, therefore, to take a One Health approach to address the problem of AMR.
