1 WHO GLASS

In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS) for obtaining reliable, accurate national data from member countries through a standardised approach to sample collection, transport, storage, analysis and reporting. It allows for the progressive incorporation, analysis and collective understanding of AMR data from various countries, furthering global monitoring of resistance and informing strategies at local, national and international levels in order to fight AMR globally.

In the Early Implementation phase, the programme focused on clinical AMR data in humans only (GLASS-AMR), however, as the programme has expanded, additional courses, such as surveillance for emerging AMR (GLASS-EAR), surveys of antimicrobial consumption (GLASS-AMC), One Health and AMC surveillance, are being piloted and added. It also now incorporates a range of more specialist surveys and studies.
