Discover how geospatial energy modeling can transform electrification planning and decision-making. This course introduces the Open Source Spatial Electrification Tool (OnSSET) and its integration with the Global Electrification Platform (GEP), empowering you to design cost-effective and data-driven electrification strategies. You will explore key Geographical Information System (GIS) methods to build a spatial database, incorporating datasets such as population distribution, existing infrastructure, and renewable energy resources. Drawing on this database, you will develop your own country-level least-cost electrification model using the OnSSET tool, analyzing grid extensions, mini-grids, and stand-alone systems. By the end of this course, you will gain hands-on experience in geospatial energy planning, equipping you with the skills to contribute to sustainable and least-cost electrification solutions, supporting global efforts to achieve SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
