      The badge system for instructors recognizes expertise in teaching and developing energy modelling capacity across organisations and tools. It provides a structured pathway for experienced modellers to develop their teaching abilities and contribute to building a strong community of practice in energy system modelling education. The framework emphasises both technical knowledge and pedagogical skills, promoting effective knowledge transfer through CCG's Energy Modelling Platform events and similar programs.

      This structure helps standardise instructional quality while connecting trainers to a broader network of modelling educators, fostering excellence in energy system modelling education and professional development. The framework accommodates various teaching approaches while ensuring consistent high-quality training delivery.

    • This advanced teaching certification recognizes expertise in designing and delivering comprehensive OSeMOSYS training programs. It validates the ability to create sophisticated training materials, mentor other instructors, and adapt programs to diverse learning contexts. The qualification ensures instructors can lead complex training initiatives while advancing modelling education methodology. Note that this badge aligns with the holder's badge proficiency level, which will determine the level of the course being taught. For example, lead silver badge holders will teach and design introductory courses that cover the ‘fundamental’ concepts, while lead gold badge holders create and deliver more advanced ‘technical’ content.

      Applicants will earn the OSeMOSYS - Lead Instructor Badge; if their submission meets the following criteria.

      • Designing comprehensive, multi-level training programs in energy system modelling

      • Develop advanced training materials addressing real-world modelling challenges

      • Evaluate and assess learners' modelling competencies across skill levels

      • Adapt training programs to suit diverse cultural and professional contexts

      • Mentor Associate Instructors and support their professional development

      • Integrate cutting-edge developments in energy modelling into training curricula

      • Integrate ethical and cultural considerations into modelling instruction

       

       

      Applicant needs to demonstrate these required qualifications:

      • Hold at least a Silver proficiency badge in OSeMOSYS

      • Document teaching experience 

      • Provide evidence of independently designing and leading a full training program

       

      Required Evidence:

      Submit comprehensive teaching portfolio

      • Upload CV (or similar) outlining teaching experience 

      • Provide links to / or upload course materials showcasing an example of  full course design (should include syllabuses, assessments, timetable of lesson delivery etc.)

      • Documentation of successful program delivery (EMP track or University Module)- this could in be form of student feedback or a letter of reference from training program coordinator 

      • Submit a brief teaching philosophy (1-2 pages) outlining how you adapt training to different audiences and local contexts

      • Two signed letters of recommendation from existing 'Lead instructor' badge holders
