MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, are strains of the pathogenic bacterium Staphylococcus aureus that are resistant to the antibiotic methicillin and that cause diseases ranging from simple but difficult-to-treat skin infections to life-threatening septic shock.
