intersectionality

A theoretical orientation that underlines research and activism that seeks to move beyond single or typically favoured categories of analysis (e.g. sex, gender, race and class) to consider simultaneous interactions between different aspects of social identity, as well as the impact of systems and processes of oppression and domination.


intrinsic resistance

The innate ability of a bacterial species to resist the action of antibiotic as a consequence of the bacteria’s structural or functional characteristics.

isolates

A bacterial strain separated from a mixed population of microbes such as those found in the soil or inside the gut.
