An introduction to AMR surveillance

Introduction

The aim of this module is to explore the concept of surveillance, its types and purpose in the context of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Leaners will understand how to evaluate and improve surveillance systems, and they will have the opportunity to consider their role in relation to surveillance activities.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • understand the purpose of surveillance
  • describe key surveillance terms and concepts
  • describe different types of surveillance
  • understand different methods of undertaking surveillance
  • understand the purpose of AMR surveillance
  • describe different types of AMR surveillance
  • understand the importance of comparing surveillance across sectors (human, animal, agricultural and environmental).

It will take about eight minutes. For the purposes of this module, the focus will be on public health surveillance.
